Novitec has already worked on the Ferrari 296 GTB. Now, the tuning company is back with upgrades for its open-top version, the Ferrari 296 GTS. This facelift includes new design parts and performance improvements.
New Look with Carbon Fiber Parts
The updated Ferrari 296 GTS has several naked-carbon fiber add-ons that make it look sportier and more aggressive.
These new parts include:
- A redesigned front chin spoiler
- A piece added to the large front air intake
- A new ducktail-style rear spoiler
- A custom rear diffuser
- Side rocker panels
- Updated trim for side mirrors and quarter windows
- Carbon surrounds for the side air intakes
Novitec says these changes help improve aerodynamics. The upgrades reduce lift at the front and increase downforce at higher speeds. This means the car feels more stable and planted when going fast.
New Vossen Alloy Wheels
The Ferrari 296 GTS also gets new aftermarket wheels. Novitec added NF10 alloys made by Vossen. These wheels feature a five-twin-spoke design.
Wheel and tire sizes:
- Front: 9.5x21 inches with 255/30 tires
- Rear: 11.5x22 inches with 335/25 tires
These wheels not only improve the look but also give better road grip.
Lowered Suspension for a Sportier Drive
Novitec used new sport springs to lower the car's ride height by about 35 mm (1.4 inches). This lowers the car closer to the ground, improving handling and creating a more aggressive stance.
The car comes with a nose-lift system to make driving easier on bumps and steep driveways. At the press of a button, it can raise the front of the car by 40 mm (1.6 inches). It lowers back automatically at 50 mph (80 kph) or with another press.
High-Performance Exhaust System
Novitec didn't stop at the looks. The engine now breathes better thanks to a new performance exhaust system. There are two exhaust options:
- One made from stainless steel
- One made from INCONEL, a lightweight, high-strength alloy
Both options offer thermal insulation and can be upgraded with 999-fine gold plating. Each system can include valve control, letting the driver adjust the car's volume.
To add even more performance, Novitec included:
- Flow-optimized turbo inlets
- Other engine tweaks
More Horsepower, Same Great Speed
With all the upgrades, the 296 GTS now delivers 856 horsepower (868 ps / 638 kW), 37 more than the standard version.
Here are the stock performance figures of the Ferrari 296 GTS:
- 0–62 mph (0–100 kph): 2.9 seconds
- 0–124 mph (0–200 kph): 7.6 seconds
- Top speed: over 205 mph (330 kph)
The open-top 296 GTS has the same 0–62 time as the 296 GTB coupe but is 0.3 seconds slower to 124 mph. Even though Novitec hasn't shared official numbers for the tuned version, it's likely at least one-tenth of a second faster than the stock model.
